Movie Review: Vantage Point

February 24th, 2008    Posted in Movie

The movie is based around this unique focus of eight strangers with eight points of view of one crime. The movie repeats and overlaps some sections of the film which is kind of off pace for a typical American film. Some people got loud in our theater which was annoying but I found the film the best I had seen in 2008. The unique twists in the plot and how the story builds as you see different views is great. The dramatic irony is very well placed for people that enjoy it in a film. My biggest surprise in the film was to find Holt McCallany in the film from CSI Miami. He played a detective for about 11 episodes named John Hagen who had a fling with Cali Ducain. That was my favorite shocker from the cast. The filming was excellent and the explosions and aftermath footage came out flawlessly. The movie definitly touches on some issues in world culture of today including our ally with some Arab nations. It may be a little over the top for Hollywood sake which could bring you some annoyance if you take great pride in the United States. Forest Whitaker killed it in this movie as well. He has like 6 films in post production right now so if you like him you will definitly see enough of him soon.

Movie Review : Jumper

To make this review short let me give you the top 5 reasons to see Jumper.
1. Rachel Bilson
2.Rachel Bilson
3.Rachel Bilson
4.Rachel Bilson
5.Samuel L. Jackson with white hair

Other than Rachel Bilson of The OC fame I couldn’t really give you much else to care about in the film. The film wasn’t horrible, I actually enjoyed it for a borderline Sci-Fi comic book thriller. The cast is pretty weak outside of Samuel L. Jackson and Rachel Bilson. I do love Diane Lane (Murder at 1600) but she was hardly in the movie and robbed us of some quality acting perhaps? Hayden Christensen sucks and probably ruined the movie as a whole. The on location filming in Rome and Hong Kong were definitly a nice touch to the film. The movie originally peeked my interest from an article in GQ Magazine about how Rachel wasn’t cast in the film but they snuck her in midway and refilmed the rolls with her. They kept this low key to not arise red flags of a recast. Normally recasting is very bad PR and a take from the public that the movie isn’t going well and it will be a flop.

Overall Rating- C+

Movie Review: Nike SB – Nothing But the Truth

January 5th, 2008    Posted in Movie, Nike

So I finally got a chance today to sit down and watch the Nike SB film, Nothing but the Truth. I have to say it’s the best movie I have seen in 2008 even though it’s January 5th. This movie is amazing and Lionel Goldstein does a remarkable job at presenting skateboarding in a whole new light. I think it will redefine the way skate films will move forward and it’s tacky unique 80’s style mobile home city they built is amazing. The filler videos are hysterical! I think Chet Childers was my favorite parody section with the robotic cow and his skate section was amazing as well. It’s hard for me even to explain a movie that makes so little sense but it was great and the most entertaining skate video I have seen to date.  So check it out!
